Label Removal
Our NFRC rated windows and doors come with two labels affixed. There is a permanent label attached to the glass stop in an unobtrusive place. This is one line with white printing on black, for example: NFRC – ELD-N-4-00001-00001. This label should not be removed. There is also a paper label about 4” x 5’ that can be removed after the building inspector has competed the inspection. To remove the label, slowly peel away from one corner. If label tears or sticks, moisten with soapy water and gently scrape with plastic putty knife. Do not use a knife or any sharp metallic object! General Cleaning
- Clean approximately twice a year or as needed. In coastal areas where salt spray occurs, we recommend monthly cleaning.
- Avoid cleaning in direct sunlight or in temperatures over 100º or under 35º.
- Do not use solvent cleaners or abrasives.
- Do not power-wash windows or use a high velocity setting on your garden hose.
- Avoid using metal tools, razor blades, or other sharp objects.
- Do not allow cleaning solution to puddle or dry on the surface.
- On very large doors or windows, clean and rinse one area at a time.
- Exterior, multi-story windows should be cleaned by a professional window cleaner.
Recommendations
- Do not power-wash windows or use a garden hose; this can cause seal failure and allow water to enter the structure.
- When cleaning the exterior, multi-story windows, begin with the upper story and work down.
- Avoid using metal tools, razor blades, or other sharp objects and abrasive cleaners. They can damage window surfaces, scratch glass and remove glass coatings.
- Do not allow aggressive cleaners to come into contact with metal surfaces. Immediately rinse and dry.
- Do not allow cleaners to puddle or collect at glass edges near glazing materials.
- Avoid cleaning in direct sunlight or in temperatures too hot or too cold. Avoid excessive rubbing and over-cleaning.
- Do not scour.
- Clean and rinse one area at a time.
- Clean twice a year (monthly in coastal areas) or when dirty.
- After-market tints and films are not recommended, as they may cause
- damage to the glass and/or sealant.
Precautions And Safety
- Do not use solvent cleaners, they can damage the finish and be hazardous to health.
- Use proper/safe equipment and precautions when cleaning and servicing the exterior side of windows above ground level.
Inspection & Maintenance
- Weather stripping
- Weather strip Cleaning
- Clean with damp cloth or mild soap and water.
- Rinse and dry thoroughly.
- Precautions
- Do not use solvents such as mineral spirits, alcohol or petroleum-based products, which may damage or dissolve weather stripping or weather strip adhesion.
- Do not use abrasives, sanders, or anything sharp near weatherstrip.
Weather Strip Repairx
- Carefully pull back weatherstrip.
- Apply thin bead of super glue, then press firmly for just a few seconds.
Coastal Care & Maintenance
In coastal environments we recommend monthly inspection and cleaning. Salt and other corrosive or abrasive substances must not be allowed to build up on exterior surfaces.
Clean the exterior with a mild detergent soap and water at least every month and more frequently if necessary to prevent build up. Any scratches, chips or areas of abrasion to the exterior coating must be repaired immediately.
