Automatic Operation
Regular swing doors have their hinges along the door edge, so the entire panel swings open. Pivot doors have their hinge point some distance in from the door frame so, while most of the door panel swings one way, a smaller portion of the door panel swings in the opposite direction. Pivot doors must be wider than a swing door to achieve the same opening dimensions. The main advantage of a pivot door is that it accommodates an automatic, floor mounted closer. This closer can be configured to let the door swing outwards, inwards or in both directions, with an additional, ‘hold open’ option. Our Swing or French Doors can also have automatic, hydraulic closings; however, unlike the pivot door, the closing unit is attached to the top of the door.
With the pivot system, the hydraulic closing unit is integrated into the floor plate and is therefore, virtually invisible. This type door allows the glass door panel to be much wider than the panels of other doors, which creates a very impressive entrance. You will often find pivot doors installed in commercial offices, banks, art galleries or retail establishments where they provide a uniquely sophisticated entry system – and a Wow factor that cannot be underestimated. The pivot door system can be framed in steel or aluminum.
