Living in a coastal area is definitely a value for your life style with lot of sea breeze, freedom and romance, but it exposes home owners to unique weather conditions, including hurricanes and tropical storms. At EuroSteel, we understand the importance of safeguarding your home against such elements. No door can claim to be completely hurricane-proof, as you cannot predict the hurricane but choosing the right hurricane-impact door can significantly enhance your home’s protection and offer peace of mind during stormy weather. We are experts and certified in this and we’ll guide you through the key factors to consider when selecting hurricane-impact doors and windows for your home, ensuring exceptional performance and security no matter where you live.

NFRC (National Fenestration Rating Council)

EuroSteel architectural products are certified for energy efficiency by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC). The NFRC label affixed to each unit displays key performance metrics such as U-Factor, Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC), Visible Light Transmittance (VT), and Air Leakage. EuroSteel windows can achieve exceptionally low U-Factor ratings, as low as 0.18, making them highly energy-efficient. NFRC certification is widely recognized in USA and Canada, accepted by state and local building departments.

NAFS (North American Fenestration Standard)

EuroSteel doors and windows are certified under the North American Fenestration Standard (NAFS), Light Commercial (LC) rating, indicating their suitability for residential and light commercial installations in the USA and Canada, including buildings up to three stories. NAFS certification covers structural integrity, resistance to air and water infiltration, forced entry resistance, and operational functionality. The LC25 rating signifies the product’s performance in different conditions.

TAS (Testing Application Standard)

EuroSteel windows and doors hold High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) certification, making them suitable for installation in specific coastal hurricane and wind-borne debris zones, including areas in Texas, Louisiana, and Florida. These products are tested for hurricane certification according to ASTM E1886/E1996 or TAS 201/203 protocols. Tests include impacts by large and small missiles to simulate windborne debris and cyclic pressure differentials experienced during hurricanes.

The Importance of Window & Door Certification

Certification ensures the quality and performance of EuroSteel’s products, meeting industry standards and building code requirements. The National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) certifies energy performance, while NAFS and TAS certifications cover structural integrity, water and air resistance, forced entry resistance, and hurricane readiness. These certifications provide consumers and building officials with confidence in the products’ reliability and efficiency.

Quality Assurance Management System

Apart from testing, Eurosteel maintains a Quality Assurance Management System compliant with third-party certification agency requirements. This ensures that the products manufactured align with the specifications and quality standards established during testing. Onsite audits are conducted twice a year to verify the quality system, records, and product consistency, ensuring the continued production of certified, high-quality products.

Fire Rating

In the event of fire, we face threats like hot gases, toxic smoke, dangerous heat transmission and fire spread to other parts of the building due to breakage behavior of conventional glass products. These threats put at risk the safe evacuation of people and protection of property. Eurosteel Saint-Gobain glass and steel fire protection solutions are able to resist such threats, ensure life safety and suit the requirements of a complete range of building applications – including aesthetically appealing system solutions for seamless architectural integration.
